CAIR-AZ FUNDRAISING DINNER A SUCCESS
(PHOENIX, AZ, 9/24/05) - $75,000 was raised at the annual banquet of CAIR's Arizona office (CAIR-AZ) which was attended by over 300 people. CAIR National Board Vice-Chairman Ahmad Al-Akhras offered the keynote address at the event. Other speakers included Raeed Tayeh, political and media consultant from Washington, D.C. and Kamran Memon, civil rights attorney from Chicago.
Event highlights included an awards presentation that recognized service to the community by Muslim leaders and youth. An “Award of Heroism” was presented to Iesa Abuasida, son of Dawud Abusida, a Tucson civilian who perished on August 10, 2005 while assisting a police officer on duty. Governor Janet Napolitano sent a representative to read aloud the governor’s proclamation that recognizes September 24 as CAIR-AZ Day.
Banquet attendees also included interfaith leaders as well as a number of
local and state law enforcement authorities and elected officials, including Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Detective Harry Sexton and Harry Mitchell.
