CAIR-Houston Meets with Immigration Detention Center

CAIR-Houston appreciates the efforts of the Corrections Corporations of America to accommodate the Muslim inmates of the Immigration Detention Center and better understand their needs.

On Tuesday March 17, the president, vice-president and civil rights coordinator of CAIR-Houston met with the Warden and Chaplain of the CCA, the company that runs the Immigration Detention Center in Houston.

The meeting with Warden Robert Lacy Jr. and Chaplain Michael Davis  was held to address complaints from the inmates as well as to discuss ways to create better understanding of the Muslim inmates of the detention center.
CAIR-Houston representatives and Warden Lacy and Chaplain Davis discussed the concern of security and possible resolutions to the complaints filed by inmates.

Qurans and literature brought by CAIR-Houston were accepted by the detention center officials and will be made readily available to any inmate. The chaplain also assured CAIR-Houston that additional trainings and meetings have been held to help educate officers on how to interact with Muslim inmates in a more respectful manner.

CAIR-Houston feels positive about the outcome of the meeting and would like to thank the Corrections Corporation of America for taking the time out and meeting with them.
